Kenyan domestic workers in the Middle East face severe abuse and exploitation, with many seeking better opportunities only to find themselves in slave-like conditions. Faith Murunga and Selestine Musavakwa shared their harrowing experiences of physical abuse, forced labor, and sexual advances while working in Saudi Arabia. Despite the high demand for migrant labor, Kenyan workers often end up in low-paying jobs with little protection. Recruitment agencies like Alsaiar Travel, Tours and Recruitment Limited are accused of facilitating this movement and then abandoning the workers. The Kenyan government has introduced regulations to protect its citizens and negotiated a minimum wage agreement with Saudi Arabia, but full implementation is pending. The Kafala system in the Gulf further exacerbates the vulnerability of migrant workers to exploitation.
