The Almajiri Child

Yola, Nigeria Current Affairs December 21 @ 8:44pm

The Almajiris are basically children whose parents send them to far flung parts of Northern Nigeria to acquire Islamic education. The irony is that these kids, sometimes as young as 4 have to fend for themselves by begging on the streets and sleeping anywhere they find shelter. The rise of suicide bombings in the North East has been because of the availability and gullibility of these children. Ironically, this has not stopped the almajiri syndrome. This is the story of an almajiri turned Professor in one of the Universities and how his story inspires hope that the almajiri situation can be turned to a blessing for the society.
