Pressure group promotes peer education to curb child abuse in the aftermath of 20K students falling pregnant.

Harare, Zimbabwe Current Affairs 14 Nov 2022

In Zimbabwe over 20 000 young primary and secondary school students became pregnant between September 2021 and August this year.

The shocking statistics on girl child abuse have prompted Shamwari Yemwanasikana, a local civic society, to pursue peer-to-peer education program dubbed the Dandare Yemwanasikana (Council of Girls) to combat the scourge of child pregnancies.

The Dandare Yemwanasikana peer education program consists of young girls from various backgrounds discussing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Research (SRH) and Abstainance while a pressure group moderates the discussions.
