Profile on Armenian Catholic Mkhitarian/Mechitariste Congregation

Vienna, Austria Arts & Books February 23 @ 8:49am

One manifestation of the Armenian presence in Europe is the Armenian Catholic Mkhitarian or Mechitariste Congregation, based in Venice and Vienna. Originally founded in 1700 by a reformist cleric from Constantinople (Istanbul), the group moved through various locations following regional wars before settling in their current locations.

I propose a profile on one or both monasteries, their fascinating history of education and publication (not unlike the Jesuit Order), and their current state and activities. The priests are dwindling in number but have lately been renewed by novices from Armenia and Georgia. Willing to travel or prepare the material remotely.
