Chicago's spiraling gun violence

Chicago, United States of America Current Affairs July 6 @ 2:59pm

Chicago's gun violence is roaring back to life after the coronavirus shut-down. Over the Independence Day weekend, at least 17 were killed and over 60 injured, despite an extra 1,200 officers on the streets. For three weekends in a row, young children have been killed. Why? The reasons, the theories, the assumptions are many: it's the heat, it's the tougher economic times because of the pandemic, it's police "holding back" since the BLM protests, it's criminals feeling more emboldened. Either way, the city could be on track for a record-breaking number of deaths in 2020 -- and around here, that's saying a lot.
