Duduza community cry foul over high crime

Johannesburg South, South Africa Current Affairs September 14 @ 1:43pm

Residents of Duduza informal settlement in Tshwelopele , Tembisa have given a stern warning to criminals who carry on stealing from the community while they are away at work and have seen that as a opportunity. This is after more than 15 sharks in Block D were broken and more goods and chattels including Laptops, Money and food being stolen.

Like any other section, while people are away at work, the street look quiets and is easier for criminals to break.
Nombi, a member of the Duduza community forum said “if they don’t stop we are the community will take the law into our own hands. We cannot afford to be disrespected like this. This has to come to an end”.

We cannot put the blame to people living out the community. We are being stabbed by people who know us. They know our knock in and out times.

In a scenario Nombi said ‘last weekend I slept about 1am having fun with my friends but after the party I was surprised when I found my electric cable being stolen I the morning . This tells you exactly that we are being stabbed by people who know us.

Without mentioning the word illegal immigrants Nombi said “as the elected community leaders we have resolved that each stand owner must have a certified copy of Identification of each of their tenants, those without will have to leave the community”.
The community of Duduza is known to have more foreign national and crime is rife. Last week cases of mob justice involving community member looting shops belonging to foreign nations were reported.
