South Africa takes Pride in embracing LGBTQ+ community

Pretoria, South Africa Social June 1 @ 8:14pm

June is International Pride Month and South Africa is the first African country to legally endorse same-sex unions. Now, it’s become the only country on the continent with two of its public hospitals offering gender reassignment for transgender people. We’d like to document a transman known as Truncle Thomars, originally from Zimbabwe, but settled in South Africa. He’s recently completed a crucial part of the procedure and is willing to share his transitioning journey. This is a procedure that costs about 20,000 USD elsewhere, but the state has deployed endocrinologists who will evaluate those who qualify to ensure state funds don’t go to waste. We will look at what the process is, around changing identity document from being female to male.
