The “Weep Masters of Ethiopia”

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Cultural March 12 @ 12:23pm

Every culture in the world has its own customs of mourning and funeral ceremony. But I haven’t heard of “Weep masters” else where in the World. Ethiopia’s funeral services turn overwhelmingly aggressive in the presence of these “Weep masters”. “Aslekash” is what they are called. In Amharic, the word refers to the people who come to funerals and mourning ceremonies to make the bereaved and attendants at the funeral cry like a baby craving for its mother’s presence.
