Humanitarian group warns Ukrainians: Information provided to UN could be used by the Russians

15 Mar 2022  |  www.foxnews.com
The White Helmets, a humanitarian organization, has advised Ukrainians to exercise caution when sharing information with the United Nations, fearing that the Russian military may use it to target civilian areas. The group's director, Raed Saleh, drew parallels between the conflicts in Syria and Ukraine, citing past instances where medical sites were targeted after being reported to the U.N. The U.N. defended its notification system, stating it is meant to protect humanitarian facilities by informing all conflict parties. Amid escalating violence in Eastern Europe, the White Helmets plan to provide resources and training to Ukraine and urge the U.N. to more actively call out perpetrators.

NRK correspondent on days in Ukraine: 'There's nothing you can say to comfort'

08 Mar 2022  |  www.journalisten.no
NRK's Europe correspondent Roger Sevrin Bruland shares his experiences reporting from Ukraine, highlighting the stark contrast between life before and after the war. He describes the fear and anxiety among the Ukrainian people, who now face the threat of death and have lost track of friends and family. Bruland has been well-received by locals who appreciate foreign journalists. He reports on the Pravda Brewery in Lviv, which has shifted from brewing beer to making molotov cocktails after Ukrainian authorities encouraged civilians to arm themselves. Bruland also covers a metalworking shop producing spike mats and 'hedgehogs' for checkpoints. Despite the dangers, he maintains a professional distance and plans to return to Ukraine in a few weeks.

How easy it is to get a fake Polish corona test

25 Jan 2021  |  NRK
NRK, using a freelance journalist, has uncovered the ease of obtaining fake corona tests in Poland. These tests, which are required for entry into Norway, can be forged by photoshopping names and dates onto legitimate documents from recognized laboratories. An authentic test in Poland costs about 1000 NOK, while a fake one is around 350 NOK. Payment for these fake tests is often made in bitcoin to avoid traceability. The Norwegian government is tightening entry requirements, reducing the window for testing from 72 to 24 hours before departure. NRK has not used these fake tests to enter Norway. The issue of fake tests is also a concern for London Medical Laboratory, whose name and a doctor's signature were forged on a fake certificate. Norwegian authorities are aware of the issue, and police have methods to assess the authenticity of documents, although it remains challenging. So far, one person has been convicted in Norway for using a fake test and was sentenced to 30 days in prison.

The Dream of Europe

21 Nov 2020  |  NRK
The article recounts the author's experience in Warsaw during a large protest against the Polish government's conservative policies, particularly a controversial abortion law. The protest symbol, a red lightning bolt, echoes Polish resistance during World War II. Despite the large turnout, the All Saints' Day holiday sees a quieter city. The author visits the home of Vice Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński, the perceived architect of Poland's new nationalism. The article also touches on the challenges faced by journalists in Poland and Hungary due to government restrictions on media, contrasting this with the situation in Norway. The narrative conveys a sense of irony and frustration with the limitations on demonstrations and press freedoms in these EU member states.

Agata to NRK: - The development in Poland is frightening

30 Oct 2020  |  NRK
In Poland, protests have erupted against one of Europe's strictest abortion laws following a constitutional court ruling that bans abortions even in cases of severe fetal defects. The largest demonstration yet took place in Warsaw with over 180,000 participants, alongside similar protests across Polish cities. Nationalists also gathered to defend what they call Poland's Christian values, leading to clashes with protesters. Katarzyna, who attended the protests with her partner Agata and daughter Weronika, recounted a frightening encounter with nationalists. Amidst these events, Poland faces a surge in COVID-19 cases, with more than 20,000 new infections per day, challenging the government's ban on gatherings of more than six people on the streets.

Wielun was until 1945 on the border with Germany and this was where the attack on Poland started with a bombardment on the main civilian area. Now the city is "LGBT free zone" and lost a money from Norwegian Found to renovate the swimming pool.
