Houses sold for R$ 6 in a village in Italy
In early 2019, the authorities of Sambuca, a small rural town in Sicily, launched a plan to combat depopulation by selling old and abandoned houses for 1 euro (approximately R$ 6.4). The initiative required new owners to renovate the properties within three years. The '1 euro houses' gained international media attention, resulting in offers from around the world. Initially, 16 properties were auctioned to foreigners, and since then, over 40 houses have been sold at regular prices. The strategy has been successful, with the town attracting a diverse group of international owners, including writers, journalists, actors, and politicians. Other towns in Italy and abroad have adopted similar measures to tackle rural depopulation.
The Global Guardians: We are all making big sacrifices
The article reports on the COVID-19 situation in Italy as of March 23, with a total of 59,138 confirmed cases. It highlights the efforts of Dr. Rodolfo Ferrari, who is stationed at a triage structure outside the Hospital S. Maria della Scaletta. Dr. Ferrari is responsible for taking samples from individuals to test for the virus. Those who test negative are allowed to return home, while positive cases are admitted to the hospital. This process is crucial in preventing the hospital from becoming overwhelmed, as it is already at full capacity.

Since November 17, 2018, tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets every Saturday to demand the resignation of President Emmanuel Macron. Systematically, minority groups of troublemakers collide with law enforcement and policeman.
Here is our multimedia piece for BBC Capital on the difficulty to sell a family mansion in France. Adèle Humbert and I spent time with Roland Thenot, 84-year-old owner of Montclavel, the family castle. He says that he has to “give up the fight for Montclavel for lack of fighters” because his nephews are just not interested in taking over the castle. New generations don’t have the same conception of feeling rooted and it impacts the real estate market.
