Zimbabwe Government Operates with One Chartered Accountant, Reveals Finance Ministry's Permanent Secretary
George Guvamatanga, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, disclosed that the Zimbabwean government is severely understaffed in terms of financial expertise, with only one chartered accountant on its payroll. This shortage hampers the government's ability to comply with financial reporting requirements, particularly for companies seeking to list on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange. Guvamatanga highlighted the discrepancy between his previous role in banking, where he managed a team of 17 chartered accountants for a $500 million balance sheet, and his current challenge of overseeing a $10 billion balance sheet with just one accountant. The skills gap also affects other government ministries, which manage large budgets without the support of any chartered accountants. Zimbabwe aims to adopt Accrual Based Accounting by 2025 to enhance transparency and accountability in government operations.
I produced that episode for Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa, she is one of the most sort out media practitioners in Zimbabwe. It was a very necessary story to tell that has been affecting the majority of Zimbabweans daily.

This interview features one of Zimbabwe's fastest growing comedians Ray Vines. Freedom of expression has been very contentious in Zimbabwe and I asked him that very question which he gradly answered without 'fear'. Interesting response that he gave.

Did one of the most influential interviews of 2019 in the Zimbabwe Arts industry with Zim Hip Hop star Ti Gonzi after his unfortunate robbery and life threatening injuries. I followed him up at a local Harare Hospital to understand what he was going through. It has quite some hits on YouTube.
Chamisa Urged to Accept Official Leader Role for Dialogue to Commence
Nelson Chamisa, Zimbabwe's main opposition leader, has been urged to acknowledge his role as the leader of the opposition to initiate dialogue with President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Nick Mangwana, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Information, stated that the president is open to discussions but the legitimacy of his presidency is not debatable. Chamisa and MDC secretary general Douglas Mwonzora have both expressed a desire for dialogue to address the country's economic challenges. Mwonzora emphasized that the MDC is ready for unconditional talks, criticizing ZANU PF for setting preconditions. The impasse continues as Chamisa has not recognized Mnangagwa's legitimacy following a Constitutional Court defeat.
