Portuguese journalist living in London. After taking a BA in Communication Studies in Lisbon, I moved to London to pursue a MA in Radio at Goldsmiths College back in 2013. Since then, I've been working as freelancer: - Freelance Researcher at The Listening Post, Al Jazeera English media analysis show. My duties include assisting the producer on the show’s lead piece (looking for possible voices to address the subject, general research about the subject chosen for the show and booking interviews). (currenttly) - Freelance Sound engineer at Monocle 24, where my main tasks involve recording and editing audio, mixing packages, running pre-recorded and live music hours, as well as outputting live shows at the station. (currently) - Intern at CNN's Features, working as an assistant producer. Main tasks involved assisting producers with research and logistics in preparation for tasks, as well as pitching ideas for features. (April-July 2015) - Audio editor at Live@Wimbledon, the Championships official radio (2014) While keeping across what's making the news, my main strength are research and analysis on topics that relate with the Portuguese speaking world. I also provide translations.

The Judgments of Guimarães
In Guimarães, two court rulings were issued on the same day regarding the legal status of delivery workers linked to electronic platforms. Both rulings concluded that these workers are employees of the companies, despite the companies' claims of them being independent contractors. The article highlights the inconsistency in initial court decisions and the need for a specific legal framework to address the unique conditions of gig economy workers, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the reality of their working conditions over traditional legal classifications.
A measure of the spiritual intelligence of leadership from the perspective of Brazilian and Portuguese workers
The study evaluates the psychometric quality of the adapted Spiritual Intelligence Self-Report Inventory (SISRI) to measure leaders' spiritual intelligence from employees' perspectives in Brazil and Portugal. Conducted in hospital organizations, the research involved 434 workers and found the adapted SISRI to be a reliable tool, supporting a four-factor structure with construct invariance and convergence. Brazilian workers scored higher in overall spiritual intelligence, particularly in Critical Existential Thinking and Consciousness Expansion dimensions.
Private Property
In Mexico, private property is not a right but a concession from the government, contrasting with other countries where it is a fundamental right. The article criticizes the Mexican government's approach to property rights, suggesting it undermines individual ownership.
The continuity of use of a social network and the moderating role of narcissistic personality of its users
Proposes and tests the impact of social influence, hedonic value, utilitarian value, flow experience, and sense of belonging on the continued use of Facebook, examining the moderating role of narcissistic personality. Conducted a quantitative survey with 360 users, analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. Validated the theoretical model, confirming eight hypotheses and highlighting the moderating role of narcissistic personality between social influence and sense of belonging. Theoretical contributions include the original model and evidence of the moderating role of narcissistic personality.
Challenges to Viticulture in Montenegro under Climate Change
Montenegro's viticulture faces significant challenges due to climate change, with increasing temperatures and changing precipitation patterns threatening traditional grape growing regions. The study uses bioclimatic indices and climate models to project future conditions, indicating that adaptation measures are necessary to sustain viticulture. Strategies include precision viticulture, late-ripening grape varieties, and improved irrigation systems. The research highlights the potential for new vineyard locations and the importance of integrating climate change awareness and adaptation strategies to preserve Montenegro's viticultural heritage.
Deconstructing Hunting Behavior Reveals a Tightly Coupled Stimulus-Response Loop
The study investigates zebrafish larvae hunting behavior by recording and analyzing individual swim bouts in a custom-built behavioral arena. The researchers tracked the kinematics of 57,644 swim bouts and used a pipeline involving dimensionality reduction, distance computation, micro-clustering, and non-linear embedding to generate a behavioral space. The findings suggest that zebrafish larval tail kinematics can be accurately represented in a lower-dimensional space and that there is a high degree of continuity across bouts, with some local densities representing more stereotyped types of forward swim.
Design of Experiments Technique Applied to Artificial Neural Network Models for FPSO Mooring System Analysis
The article presents a study on the application of Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques to Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models for analyzing the mooring systems of Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) platforms. The research focuses on predicting mooring tension and platform offset under various operational conditions using dynamic NARX and static MLP models. The study highlights the importance of supervised feature selection and the use of both numeric and non-numeric data to improve prediction accuracy. The methodology involves numerical modeling, test matrix creation, and data generation, with results showing significant improvements in prediction accuracy and faster convergence. The research is supported by various Brazilian institutions and emphasizes the potential of ANN models in marine engineering applications.
New Framework for Worker's Compensation Funds
A new framework for funding workers' compensation in Portugal, effective January 1, 2024, eliminates the requirement for employers to contribute to a workers' compensation fund. The Portuguese Supreme Court of Justice ruled that employees cannot be dismissed for rescheduling vacation if the employer does not object. The Portuguese Ombudsman has requested the Constitutional Court to declare the ban on outsourcing after collective dismissals unconstitutional, citing excessive restrictions on fundamental rights. The Constitutional Court's ruling is pending.
The European capital where rent triples the country's minimum wage
Lisbon faces a severe housing crisis where average rents far exceed the minimum wage, forcing residents like Georgina Simões and Joelsy Pacheco to work multiple jobs to afford basic living conditions. The crisis is exacerbated by foreign investment, lack of affordable housing, and government policies like golden visas. Activists and movements such as Habita and Casa é um Direito are pushing for more affordable housing, while local authorities are implementing measures to address the issue. However, many believe these efforts are insufficient and delayed.
Why rent in Lisbon costs almost triple the minimum wage
Lisbon faces a severe housing crisis, with rents nearly triple the minimum wage, driven by foreign investment and a lack of affordable housing. Individuals like Georgina Simões and Joelsy Pacheco struggle to afford rent despite working multiple jobs. Activists and experts, including Rita Silva and Luís Mendes, point to issues like 'touristification' and speculative investments as key factors. Movements like 'Casa é um Direito,' led by figures such as Diogo Faro, have organized large protests demanding affordable housing. The Lisbon City Council and government have initiated measures, but many citizens find them insufficient.
