In Accra, a new Press Corps has been inaugurated to report on the delivery of utility services in Ghana. This initiative by the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) consists of 10 media practitioners from various media outlets. The corps is tasked with promoting public understanding of PURC's activities, advising consumers on their rights, conducting public education, managing consumer complaints, and resolving service disputes. The Chairman of the PURC, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, emphasized the corps' role in improving communication channels between the commission and consumers. The president of the Ghana Journalists Association, Mr. Ransford Tetteh, praised the initiative and highlighted the importance of water and electricity as development drivers, urging the corps to report responsibly and factually on utility issues.

Ghanaian journalists prevented from covering African Union Summit

A group of Ghanaian journalists accompanying Vice President John Dramani Mahama were prevented from covering an African Union Summit in Ethiopia on May 25, 2011, by Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority officials who seized their cameras, claiming a lack of permit for professional video equipment. The journalists were delayed for three hours and had to pay storage fees to retrieve their cameras on May 27. Ghana's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Kwesi Quartey, criticized the treatment of the journalists and planned to petition the authorities.
