Francesco Broli was born in Como, Italy on the 5th of October 1966, After completing high school he enrolled at the Riccardo Bauer Institute, formally Umanitaria, in Milan, when after a two- year photography course he began working at the Barbera photography studio in Milan. meanwhile he started to work freelance with various Italian daily and weekly newspapers : Corriere Della Sera Il Giornale, Famiglia Cristiana, and Epoca. He joined the De Bellis agency in Milan and in june of the same year he left on his first official assignment to Somalia during the war. After a few years in Milan he moved on to the Olympia agency and then on to the Contrasto agency in 1997 after several features in Rwanda, Southern Sudan, Liberia and Sierra Leone. In 1999 he left Contrasto and moved to Nairobi where he began to work with international publications like The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, Time, Der Spiegel, The Daily Telegraph, Liberation, The Indipendent, Globe & Mail and UN just to mention a few. He left Africa in 2007 and actually he lives in Spain.
