Ghana president axes energy minister, gives no reason

07 Aug 2018  |  www.iol.co.za
Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo dismissed Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko without providing an official reason. Reports suggest dissatisfaction with Agyarko's handling of a controversial agreement with AMERI Energy to extend a deal for operating a 300MW emergency power plant. The deal faced criticism over its high cost. John Peter Amew, the minister of Lands and Natural Resources, will temporarily assume Agyarko's duties until a new appointment is made. Ghana, an energy producer since 2010, produces around 180,000 barrels of oil per day, primarily for power generation.
