Riots in Goma after the death of a high school girl killed in her school
A 16-year-old girl died in Goma after being beaten by a school supervisor, leading to massive student protests and the closure of all schools for two days. The incident occurred at Institut Jéricho, a private secondary school, on December 16. Following an altercation, the girl was struck, resulting in her death from internal bleeding. The supervisor fled, and the principal was detained for investigation. The protests also highlighted regular violence in schools. The provincial education minister closed secondary schools for two days and noted this was the first death from school violence during her term.
