Experts at a session on gender-focused climate governance emphasized that a green and decarbonized economy does not automatically ensure fairness and inclusivity without a gender equality approach. The session, part of the Regional Meeting on Climate Change and Gender Equality, featured presentations on gender equality in climate response in Latin America and the Caribbean, and gender perspective integration in climate policy by representatives from CEPAL, Chile's Ministry of the Environment, and Peru's General Directorate of Climate Change and Desertification. The session highlighted the risk of reinforcing gender inequalities in new job creation within decarbonization sectors and the importance of addressing gender knowledge gaps, generating gender-sensitive statistics, and researching gender-environment connections. The meeting, supported by the European Union and key strategic partners, aims to integrate gender equality in climate action and the Paris Agreement implementation roadmap.
