A fire incident at the MTN Service Centre in Lira halted business operations after the office was gutted on Sunday evening. MP's commercial building closed over sh141m tax arrears

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), supported by heavily armed police officers, closed several shops in a commercial building owned by James Olobo, a Member of Parliament from Amolatar district, due to sh141m in unpaid taxes. Despite multiple reminders, Olobo has not settled the tax debt. The building houses several shops and a bank branch, which has been notified and given a deadline to pay rent in advance to cover the tax arrears. Olobo was unreachable for comment.

11-year-old boy strangled to death by two Indians in Lango

An 11-year-old boy, Dickens Okello, was allegedly strangled to death by two Indians in Lango, Uganda. The suspects, identified only as Franau and Madhav, reportedly tried to lure Okello and his brother with biscuits and money, and later offered a lift, which the boys declined. The incident occurred near the home of MP Cecilia Atim Ogwal. The suspects, one of whom is the son of a local ginnery proprietor, are being held at Kole Central Police Station. The community is in shock, and local leaders, including Kole Woman MP Judith Alyek, have condemned the act and called for a review of the treatment of Ugandans by some Indians in the area. The deceased's family is devastated, and there are calls for the government to check the legal status of Indians in Lira. A postmortem is awaited to proceed with the investigation.
