The incident occurred on a Tuesday morning, with Engole, a prison prefect, using a knife to stab Obaa, a cleaner at the prison clinic, twice. Engole had served two years of a 13-year sentence, while Obaa was four months away from completing his sentence. Engole was previously arrested in 2014 for a crime involving the death of Denis Anyuru. The Uganda Prison Service intervened, and Engole was charged with attempted murder.
