Hiske Arts, a campaigner at Fossielvrij NL, played a significant role in this decision, which was also supported by employers such as universities and municipal communities. The move comes despite the Netherlands' heavy reliance on fossil fuels for energy production. Additionally, the Dutch pension fund Horeca & Catering has also decided to divest from fossil fuels due to pressure from the hospitality industry, initiated by Café de Ceuvel in Amsterdam. Meanwhile, in Switzerland, the majority of pension funds continue to invest in climate-damaging assets, with only a quarter acting in a climate-compatible manner.
