India showcases enhanced capability of Akash weapon system

The Indian Air Force and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) showcased the enhanced capability of the Akash semi-mobile surface-to-air missile system, successfully intercepting four unmanned aerial targets from a single firing unit. The system's central acquisition radar detected the targets at a range of 150 km and altitude of 18,000 m, coordinating with the Group Control Centre to deploy two Akash Air Force Launchers armed with missiles to intercept the targets at a distance of 25 km. This demonstration marked India as the first country to engage four aerial targets simultaneously at 25 km ranges using a single firing unit.

Bangladesh Army test-fires CS/AA3 anti-aircraft guns

The Bangladesh Army's Adhoc 57 Air Defence Regiment Artillery conducted its first test-firing of two CS/AA3 twin-barrel anti-aircraft gun systems at the Inanistha AD Firing Range in Cox's Bazar. The CS/AA3, a low-altitude, short-range air-defense weapon, is capable of hitting ground and air targets at a maximum strike range of 4 km. Manufactured by China North Industries Group Corporation Limited (Norinco), the system is a license-produced version of Switzerland's Oerlikon GDF-002 and is designed to intercept low and slow-flying threats. The induction of at least three CS/AA3 systems into the Bangladesh Army has been confirmed.

Update: Finland orders more Sisu GTP 4×4 off-road vehicles

The Finnish Defence Forces have placed an order for an additional 13 Sisu GTP 4×4 off-road vehicles, valued at EUR 9.7 million, to add to the 31 vehicles previously procured. The order was authorized by Finnish Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen and announced by the defence ministry. The vehicles come in different configurations, including general purpose and armoured personnel variants. Sisu Auto, the manufacturer, has begun serial production and delivery of the vehicles, with the new batch expected to be delivered in 2024.

South Korea Accelerates Low-Altitude Missile Defence System Development

South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has expedited the development of the low-altitude missile defence (LAMD) system by a year to counter North Korean long-range artillery. Initially planned for 2025, the project will now be completed in 2024. Local military technology firm LIG Nex1, in collaboration with the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), began developing the system in early 2022. Core technological development was finished in June 2023 to meet the new timeline.
