Kenya, Egypt hold talks for KMC to export meat to Cairo
The Government of Kenya is negotiating with Egypt to start exporting meat from the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) to the North African country. Egypt currently imports meat from Australia and Brazil, but Kenya's closer proximity and growing meat market, which saw a 31% increase in livestock slaughtered in 2020, present a potential for trade. The discussions, which have been ongoing for two years, could soon result in Kenyan meat entering the Egyptian market, especially with the customs duties exemption for goods traded within COMESA member states.
