Lack of consensus to resolve the global crisis marks the G20 summit

16 Nov 2022  |  euronews
The G20 summit concluded with no consensus among member countries on resolving the global economic and food crisis. World leaders at the summit in Bali were challenged by geopolitical events, fearing a global recession could be fatal after years of pandemic restrictions. The food crisis, exacerbated by rising food and energy prices, is worsening poverty, particularly in emerging countries. The IMF's Managing Director, Kristalina Ivanova Gueorguieva, emphasized poverty as a primary concern. The only concrete agreement was to extend the Black Sea grain export deal between Ukraine and Russia, facilitated by Turkey, set to expire on November 19. Despite the lack of total consensus, all members agree on the urgency to stop the conflict and prevent a new cold war to address the looming global economic crisis and recession.

The G20 summit concluded without a consensus among member countries on resolving the global economic and food crisis. Geopolitical events have overshadowed efforts to stabilize the world economy, with leaders fearing that measures to contain inflation could trigger a global recession. The food crisis, exacerbated by rising prices and potential famine in emerging countries, remains a primary concern. The only concrete agreement reached was the extension of the Ukraine-Russia grain export pact, with Turkey playing a key role. Despite the lack of total consensus, all member states agree on the urgency to end the conflict and avoid a new cold war to address the impending global recession.

Russia and China: the European Union's objectives at the G20 in Bali

15 Nov 2022  |  euronews
At the G20 summit in Bali, the European Union aims to isolate Russia, keep Ukrainian grain export channels open, and balance relations with China without becoming overly dependent. Russia appears more isolated than expected, with no firm support from any country, including China. The EU and the US seek to weaken Moscow's ties with non-Western countries. The US-promoted draft of the summit's final statement may condemn the war, but members might agree on the conflict's negative impact on global economic stability. EU's Charles Michel stresses the need for balanced trade with China, avoiding dependency on essential innovative technologies.

The Topic on Nova: Europe or Death

22 Sep 2015  |  nova.bg
Over 10 million people have been displaced from their homes, fleeing war, conflict, poverty, or persecution. Desperate for salvation, they see Europe as their haven, while Europe invests millions to fortify its borders against this influx. The world faces the largest humanitarian crisis of the century, with a decisive battle and only one outcome. Marina Stoimenova and Nadia Gancheva from 'The Topic on Nova' share stories of refugees who crossed into Europe in September, seeking the independence they lacked under oppressive regimes and restricted lives.

The Topic on Nova: Nepal After the Devastation

10 May 2015  |  nova.bg
Nepal, a land as small as a human palm and home to nearly 30 million people, was struck by a devastating earthquake that transcended language, cultural, and religious differences, uniting the world in tragedy. The quake turned life upside down, ending the lives of nearly 8,000 people under the rubble of their homes. Hundreds of bodies were burned at the Bagmati River in Kathmandu, the most sacred place in the city. An army of engineers is inspecting damaged houses as people fear further tremors could bring cracked buildings down on them. Countless individuals are left without basic living conditions, and hundreds of thousands of children are on the streets with nothing but memories of the nightmare they endured. After the quake, thousands reached out to help the children of Nepal, with special programs organized in every tent camp.
