About Olga
Hello, I am a New York based video journalist and a documentary filmmaker with 10+years of experience in broadcast journalism (both radio and television). Originally from Minsk, Belarus, I moved to New York City 4.5 years ago after graduating from Central Michigan University with a MA in Broadcast and Cinematic Arts. Currently, I freelance for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (Russian Service), as well as work on individual documentary and commercial projects. As a long time broadcast journalist and line news producer, I know how to work fast and efficiently under tight deadlines. I am a fluent speaker of English, Russian, Belarusian and German (needs minimal brushing up). And I own both shooting and editing gear ( Canon 5D II, Canon Vixia mini X, work with C100 II, and have the full range of rigging, including a steadicam Merlin)

The Belarusian language is under attack

12 Jun 2022  |  www.aljazeera.com
The Belarusian language and its cultural heritage are under severe attack by the current Belarusian government, led by President Alexander Lukashenko. This repression includes the closure of bookstores, arrests of publishers, and confiscation of books deemed 'extremist.' Historically, Belarus has faced similar cultural suppression under Soviet rule. The recent resurgence of the Belarusian language is seen as a form of protest against Russian aggression and the Lukashenko regime. The international community is urged to recognize and respond to this cultural genocide.

The article discusses the impact of Russian propaganda on personal relationships, particularly between the author and their mother, amid the ongoing war in Ukraine. It highlights the disinformation spread by Russian and Belarusian state media, the challenges faced by independent journalists, and the emotional toll on those trying to convey the truth. The author calls for support for Ukrainian, Belarusian, and Russian journalists and emphasizes the importance of breaking the silence about the war.

‘We have one enemy’: The Belarusians who oppose the Ukraine war

22 Mar 2022  |  www.aljazeera.com
Belarusians who fled political repression in their home country and settled in Ukraine are now displaced again due to the Russian invasion. Many have joined anti-war protests and volunteer efforts in Poland, while others have taken up arms to defend Ukraine. Organizations like the Belarus Solidarity Foundation are providing humanitarian aid and support for Belarusian volunteers. The Belarusian regime, led by Aleksandr Lukashenko, faces criticism for its alliance with Russia, and there are fears that a prolonged conflict could further entrench Russian influence in Belarus. Despite facing anti-Belarusian sentiment, many Belarusians remain resolute in their opposition to the war and their support for Ukraine.
