More than half of the population of Mumbai lives in slums, without safe access to water and functioning sewers. I wonder how the majority of the 19 million people that make up the city get by on a daily basis. During a trip to Asia I spent a day in Mumbai. These are my impressions.
In September of 2014 in the Mexican Iguala 43 students disappeared after assaults by the police. Since then their families and fellow students have been protesting on a basketball court of the University in Ayotzinapa for the return of the missing young men. Esperanza 43 on the 10th of December 2016 won the German Human Rights Movie Award (Deutscher Menschenrechts-Filmpreis) in the shortfilm category. https://www.menschenrechts-filmpreis.de/nominierte-preistraeger/preistraeger-2016/ https://www.sueddeutsche.de/kultur/film-hinsehen-nicht-wegschauen-1.3366078
Mexico - Among Good People
Oliver Stiller recounts his experience of being detained in a Mexican prison as a foreigner without a passport while on a research trip for a German-Mexican film. He describes the harsh conditions, interactions with fellow inmates, and the bureaucratic process of securing his release. Stiller also mentions his work on a documentary about the disappearance of 43 students from Ayotzinapa University in 2014. Despite the ordeal, he was eventually released without his equipment, which he later retrieved, and he passed on a list of migrant complaints to a Mexican journalist, who found it unnewsworthy.
