'This hunger is too much': Nigerians protest economic hardship
Nigerians in the southwestern city of Ibadan protested against the soaring cost of living, expressing frustration with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's leadership. The economic crisis has led to increased prices, making it difficult for many to afford food. Tinubu's policies, including ending a fuel subsidy and currency controls, have resulted in a tripling of petrol prices and a spike in living costs. The country's inflation rate hit nearly 30 percent in January. Dire conditions have led to protests in the north as well, with people resorting to extreme measures to feed their families. The emir of Kano called for urgent action from the president, while protesters in Ibadan demanded solutions or the president's resignation.

Nigerians Flock To Get Voting Cards As Election Looms
The upcoming election in Nigeria is notable for the emergence of a third-party candidate challenging the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP). With growing insecurity, high living costs, and increasing poverty, many young voters are eager to participate. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for collecting Permanent Voting Cards (PVCs) and introduced new technologies to ensure a transparent election. The election faces challenges from ongoing security issues, including jihadist conflicts, bandit militias, and separatist tensions. Key candidates include APC's Bola Tinubu, PDP's Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party's Peter Obi, who appeals to younger voters. The #EndSARS movement has also influenced young voters to engage in the electoral process.

Nigerians are actively collecting their Permanent Voting Cards (PVC) ahead of the presidential election on February 25, with nearly 10 million new voters registered. Young voters are particularly engaged, motivated by issues such as insecurity, high living costs, and poverty. Despite past issues with elections, there is a sense of urgency and responsibility among voters, especially the youth, to influence the country's leadership.

Ex-governor Tries 'Outsider' Upset With Nigeria Presidential Bid
Peter Obi, backed by the Labour Party, is emerging as a third challenger in Nigeria's presidential election, resonating with younger, urban Nigerians with his message of change. The APC is fielding Bola Tinubu, while the PDP has Atiku Abubakar. Obi's campaign focuses on increasing production, responsible governance, and tackling insecurity. Despite skepticism about his national support, especially in the north, Obi's presence could potentially disrupt the traditional party support enough to force a second-round runoff.
