The project's budget escalated, and Cannon's financial constraints led to further complications. After Golan left Cannon, he formed 21st Century Films and continued to pursue the Spider-Man film. James Cameron was later brought on by Carolco, which led to legal disputes with Golan. The rights eventually went to Sony Pictures Entertainment, which produced the Spider-Man film with David Koepp adapting James Cameron's outline into a script, and contributions from Alvin Sargent and Scott Rosenberg.
