In the neighborhoods of Talude in Loures and Terras da Costa in Costa da Caparica, over a thousand residents live without basic sanitation and limited access to water and electricity. These predominantly Cape Verdean communities rely on urban agriculture for sustenance and face social and economic vulnerabilities. Local researchers and agronomists have provided scientific and technical knowledge to improve agricultural production and access to water. The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals are referenced as a framework for addressing food security. The article highlights the importance of local, national, and global cooperation to eradicate hunger and achieve food security. It also discusses the role of the Banco Alimentar in providing food assistance and the Direcção-Geral de Saúde's perspective on food security. The report emphasizes the resilience and community spirit of the residents, despite the challenges they face.
