Amnesty International Urges Indonesian Government to Ratify Anti-Genocide Convention to Aid Palestine
Amnesty International Indonesia is pressing the Indonesian government to ratify the anti-genocide convention to provide more concrete support to Palestine. Usman Hamid of Amnesty International Indonesia suggests that ratification would enable Indonesia to pursue legal actions similar to those South Africa has taken at the International Court of Justice regarding alleged Israeli genocide in Gaza. He emphasizes the importance of international judicial systems in addressing global crimes and urges the government to also ratify the Rome Statute on the International Criminal Court and the international convention on refugees. Komnas HAM Commissioner Anis Hidayah plans to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to push for ratification and suggests other strategic steps to support South Africa at the ICJ, even before ratification.
