Improving neonatal health with family-centered, early postnatal care: A quasi-experimental study in India

20 Jul 2024  |  journals.plos.org
The study examines the impact of the Care Companion Program (CCP) on neonatal health in India, highlighting its association with reduced neonatal mortality rates. The CCP, designed by Noora Health, trains families on essential maternal and neonatal care during hospital stays and provides post-discharge follow-up through a WhatsApp-based platform. The quasi-experimental study, conducted across 28 facilities in four Indian states, shows promising results in improving neonatal care practices and reducing preventable complications. Despite some limitations, the study suggests that family-centered care interventions can significantly enhance neonatal health outcomes.

However, the current taxation regime, especially the 2% minimum turnover tax, is seen as a major hindrance, disproportionately affecting telecom companies compared to other sectors like tobacco. This tax policy is criticized for stifling investment and growth in the telecom industry, which is crucial for the country's digital economy. The article calls for a reevaluation of these tax policies to foster a more conducive investment climate and support the continued digital transformation of Bangladesh.
