Targeting patient recovery priorities in degenerative cervical myelopathy: design and rationale for the RECEDE-Myelopathy trial—study protocol

The RECEDE-Myelopathy trial is a multicenter, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study designed to assess the efficacy of Ibudilast as an adjuvant treatment to decompressive surgery for degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM). The trial aims to address patient recovery priorities, focusing on pain and physical function, and involves significant patient and public involvement in its design. Ibudilast, a potent PDE4 inhibitor with a good safety profile, is hypothesized to promote functional recovery and reduce pain in DCM patients. The trial will run from September 2021 to September 2025, with ethical approval from the Central London Research and Ethics Committee and HRACW. Key stakeholders include Myelopathy.org, AO Spine, and various clinical and scientific experts.
