Privacy in an open-data world: Why government agencies need to be proactive

23 Jun 2023  |  collibra.com
Government agencies face significant data privacy and security challenges, exacerbated by the digitalization of interactions and transactions. Regulatory frameworks like CPRA, HIPAA, and CJIS provide a complex mosaic of privacy regulations. Data brokers further complicate privacy, often selling personal information without consent. Agencies must prioritize both privacy and security, implementing comprehensive data governance policies and advocating for stronger privacy regulations. Collibra offers solutions to help agencies manage data privacy obligations and prevent breaches. The article underscores the importance of proactive data governance, especially in light of COVID-19 related fraud, and calls for increased regulation of data brokers.

How to ensure enough vaccines for the world?

10 May 2021  |  Voice of America

It highlights the challenges of vaccine production, such as the need for specialized materials and expertise, and the potential impact on future pharmaceutical innovation. The Formation of the Vietnamese Language – White Lotus

04 Apr 2021  |  Sen Trắng
Historical linguists work similarly to archaeologists, digging through layers of language to trace the origins and evolution of modern tongues. They compare vocabulary and syntax across languages to hypothesize common ancestry and divergence over time. The article discusses the formation of the Vietnamese language, its roots in the Mon-Khmer language family, and its influences from Tai-Kadai, Hmong-Mien, and Sino-Tibetan languages. It also explores the impact of migrations and cultural exchanges on language development. The Vietnamese language, with its tonal nature and lexical influences from various language families, is a result of millennia of evolution and interaction, distinct from Chinese despite sharing some vocabulary.

The Donald Trump Party

08 Mar 2021  |  Voice of America
Former President Donald Trump has declared he has no intention of forming a third political party, as he already has a strong hold on the Republican Party. His endorsement is crucial for candidates in the party, and his influence is expected to shape the 2022 elections. The loyalty of the base voters to Trump poses challenges for those within the party who oppose him. The Republican Party's traditional stance on free trade and alliances contrasts with Trump's protectionist policies. Trump's trade policies, particularly tariffs on steel and aluminum, have been criticized for their economic impact. The future of the Republican Party is seen as being at stake in the upcoming elections, with Trump's leadership potentially leading to a shift in the party's direction.

Protecting Myanmar's Democracy

10 Feb 2021  |  Voice of America
Myanmar citizens have been protesting for four consecutive days, demanding the restoration of government to democratically elected officials and the release of Aung San Suu Kyi. Thousands, including monks, students, workers, teachers, and engineers, took to the streets with banners calling for justice. The military, led by General Min Aung Hlaing, detained Suu Kyi and the president, claiming election fraud in the November elections. The election commission dismissed these allegations. The military, which holds significant power under the 2008 constitution, fears losing economic privileges with the strengthening of democracy. The coup aims to protect these interests, risking international sanctions that could harm Myanmar's economy, which has been growing due to exports and foreign investment since the democratic opening.
