Arijanet Muric, the first Kosovan goalkeeper in the Premier League, delivered a notable performance for Burnley, earning praise and support from fans and Burnley's manager Vincent Kompany. His athleticism and ball distribution were highlighted, along with his role in the team's victory over Brentford and his potential as the first choice goalkeeper for future games.

Everton news: Opinion - 'Profligacy in front of goal could cost Blues top-flight status'

04 Mar 2024  |  BBC News فارسی
Everton's inefficiency in scoring, highlighted by their poor expected goals (xG) performance, could jeopardize their Premier League status despite a successful points deduction appeal. The team has not won in 10 Premier League games, and their struggle to convert chances into goals remains a significant concern, especially with the threat of further points deductions looming.

Wolves news: Opinion - 'Relief outweighed the joy among fans' after beating Brighton

29 Feb 2024  |  BBC News فارسی
Wolves' victory over Brighton was marked by a sense of relief among fans despite the team's less-than-dominant performance. Scoring early led to a defensive game, with Brighton having more shots. The win, similar to a recent victory over Sheffield United, showcased Wolves' growing ability to secure results even when not at their best. Fans are now looking forward to a potential Wembley appearance, with confidence in overcoming Coventry City in the semi-finals. Key figures include manager Gary O’Neil and man of the match Tommy Doyle.

Manchester United: 'Scrutiny from the hierarchy has never been greater'

26 Feb 2024  |  bbc.com
Manchester United faced scrutiny after an underwhelming performance against Fulham, despite pre-match optimism from manager Erik ten Hag and new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The defeat brought further questions about Ten Hag's future at the club, especially as the team has suffered the most defeats at this stage of a season since the 1989-90 campaign. The presence of Sir David Brailsford in the stands and the absence of Ratcliffe at the game highlighted the increased scrutiny from the club's hierarchy.

Moyes' substitutions allowed Hammers to become their most threatening at Everton

01 Oct 2023  |  BBC News فارسی
David Moyes' strategic substitutions in the second half allowed West Ham to secure a late victory against Everton, despite the manager's evident respect for his former club. The changes, including replacing James Ward-Prowse with Kalvin Phillips and Lucas Paqueta with Michail Antonio, made West Ham more threatening in the closing stages. Moyes, under pressure with only one win in his past eight Premier League matches, executed a superb away performance, earning praise for his decisions and leadership.

Joel Mannix and his assistant referees before a match

01 Apr 2023  |  BBC
Joel Mannix, a non-league referee, discusses the rarity of black officials in football and the puzzled reactions he often encounters. Despite a significant number of referees from BAME backgrounds, Mannix feels there is a lack of high-profile black referees to inspire others. He believes football is significantly hindered by racism and a lack of diversity, and calls for stricter punishments for racist behavior. Mannix, who also runs a security company and has worked with celebrities, suggests that football needs to increase diversity among coaches, managers, and the media. Recent incidents of racism in football and responses from clubs and organizations like Kick It Out are mentioned. The FA's 'In Pursuit of Progress' plan aims to reflect modern society better, but Mannix feels more support for ethnic minority referees is necessary. The FA states it is working to diversify the refereeing community and encourages people from all backgrounds to become referees.

Emma Hayes: Chelsea boss on being 'female equivalent' of Brian Clough

14 Mar 2020  |  BBC
Chelsea manager Emma Hayes has expressed her admiration for the late Brian Clough, comparing herself to him as she prepares to lead her team in the League Cup final at Nottingham Forest's City Ground, a venue closely associated with Clough. Chelsea secured their spot in the final by defeating Manchester United 1-0, setting up a match against Arsenal. Hayes, who has been successful with Chelsea since 2012, winning the Women's Super League and FA Cup, is looking to claim the League Cup for the first time, a trophy that has been historically dominated by Arsenal and Manchester City. She highlighted the improved mentality and hunger of her team compared to the previous year.

Al Qaeda 'pledge of allegiance' to be disclosed in 'NY subway bomber trial'

18 Feb 2015  |  Mail Online
Details of the oath of allegiance taken by new Al Qaeda recruits were revealed during the trial of Abid Naseer, accused of plotting to bomb a Manchester shopping center. The oath, found during the US Navy Seal raid on Bin Laden's compound, was used as evidence in the New York trial. Naseer, who led the Manchester cell of a 2009 Al Qaeda plot, faces life imprisonment if convicted. The trial includes testimony from undercover MI5 agents and a confessed Al-Qaeda member, Najibullah Zazi. Naseer, representing himself, denies the charges, claiming he was in the UK to find a Muslim bride.
