Shock as ZBC demands $1,5 million to air MDC election adverts

19 Apr 2024  |  www.newzimbabwe.com
Settlement Chikwinya, aspiring MDC Alliance MP for Mbizo, criticized the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation for demanding $1.5 million in advertising fees from the opposition for election adverts ahead of the July 30 general elections. He highlighted the prohibitive costs for television and radio slots and accused the state broadcaster of biased coverage, giving Zanu PF free airtime. Chikwinya argued that the restricted media space and the monopoly of one television station in Zimbabwe hinder free and fair elections. He called for equal coverage for all candidates, noting that coverage of MDC Alliance rallies was not for public consumption but for ZBC's files.

Current production is halted, affecting the company's ability to fulfill orders.
