Court Dismisses Diezani's Application to Return to Nigeria for Trial

01 Nov 2017  |  P.M.EXPRESS
A Federal High Court in Lagos dismissed an application by former Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, to be joined in a N450 million fraud charge. Diezani, represented by lawyer Mr Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), sought to compel the EFCC to list her as a defendant and for the Attorney General of the Federation to facilitate her return from the UK to face charges. The court, however, ruled against her application, with Justice Rilwan Aikawa stating it was a misuse of court process and that Diezani was not a necessary party in the charge. The EFCC's prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo, argued that Diezani had avoided interrogation and fled to London. The court adjourned the main trial to November 13.
