Spanish media grouped in AMI sue META for unfair competition and claim over 550 million euros

04 Dec 2023  |  cadenaser.com
Spanish media, represented by the association AMI, have filed a collective lawsuit against META, formerly known as Facebook, claiming 550 million euros for unfair competition. The lawsuit includes major publishing groups such as Prisa, Vocento, Joly, Prensa Ibérica, and Unidad Editorial. They accuse META of profiting from targeted advertising based on user data tracking since 2018, which has been sanctioned by the Irish Data Protection Authority for not respecting user consent as required by European data protection regulations. The legal action aims to compensate the media and set a judicial precedent in Europe, as well as to raise awareness among the public and advertisers, according to AMI's General Director and Vice President of News Media in Europe, Irene Lanzaco.

The Great CentOS Linux Migration: How We Got Here and What’s Next

21 Jun 2023  |  DevOps.com
Red Hat's decision to limit access to RHEL source code has significant implications for the open source community, particularly affecting CentOS Linux, which historically mirrored RHEL releases. CentOS versions 6 and 8 are end-of-life (EOL), with version 7 to follow by June 30, 2024. This has led to the emergence of new projects like Rocky Linux and AlmaLinux. The future of alternative distributions' compatibility with RHEL is uncertain, with the Rocky Linux Enterprise Software Foundation and AlmaLinux OS Foundation taking different approaches to maintain compatibility. Organizations must plan and test migrations to alternative Linux distributions to ensure security and IT compliance.

Innersource, OSPOs, and a move toward a more strategic use of open source

13 Mar 2023  |  Digitalisation World
The use of open source software in organizations is increasing, with 80% of respondents in a global survey reporting an uptick over the past year. Organizations are transitioning from mere consumers to active community members and leaders in open source projects. Open Source Program Offices (OSPOs) are being established to manage the adoption, consumption, and commercialization of open source software, ensuring license compliance and advocating for best practices. Mature organizations integrate open source into their technology strategies and engage with open source communities. Innersource, or the use of open source practices within an organization, is gaining traction to train developers and promote collaboration. The future of software development is expected to see more open source usage and greater maturity in its strategic application.
