The Faces of New York Psychics

26 Oct 2018  |  newyorker.com
Belgian photographer Thomas Freteur, after moving to New York in 2017, became intrigued by the psychics behind the ads he found in subway cars and began a photo series called 'New York Psychics'. The series is part of a larger study on spirituality and aims to portray individuals who believe in their psychic abilities. The article describes the stories of several psychics, including Paul Beaudet, who came out as gay and began his career as a spiritual minister; Marge Othrow and Emily Grote, a medium and her protégé; and Nikenya Hall, an energy healer and intuitive consultant. Freteur's work captures the diversity of New York's psychics, who despite their unique backgrounds, share a commonality in their profession and the skepticism they often face.
