Bert Nap, a board member of the Wijkoverleg de Oude Binnenstad, mentioned that some residents are ready to remove the locks with angle grinders. The municipality acknowledges the issue and plans to evaluate a previous action where locks were removed along with abandoned bicycles. Meanwhile, businesses like Shop de Ville are profiting from the trend, with employee Lotte Gerritsen noting successful sales of the locks to tourists. Scrap collectors are also benefiting, earning money for the metal.
