Mohammad Omar Farok is an award-winning Bangladeshi journalist with more than 12 years of
experience in reporting. Omar started journalism at the age of fifteen. Currently, he is a
Broadcast journalist with Independent tv(Bangladesh). where he has worked since march 2021
As a Crime and Investigative reporter, he broke some of the biggest stories including corruption
scandals involving high-ranking officials such as several members of the parliament, city
corporation mayors ,Political leaders, Systematic corruption in Government institutions and
against diplomats .
He has already garnered praise for investigative reporting in Bangladesh. Not only that, some of
his reports were also discussed in the Parliament of the Country. His on-the-spot and
investigative reports are widely discussed. His Capability of generating ideas about crimes,
human trafficking and human rights, migration and gender equality, corruption ,environment
and rohingya crisis which are comparatively new for Bangladesh.

His investigative reporting on the child rights earned him UNICEF Meena media Awards, a
prestigious award in Bangladesh, for a record six times. He was also nominated for the seventh
time for this award. He obtained two distinguished fellowships: Bandhu Media Fellowship by
USAID, 2014 (for his works on the rights and conditions of sexual minorities) and Ritu Journalist
Fellowship, 2018 by the Government of the Netherlands (for works on Women Health). He won
the Visual Reporting Competition, 2017 organized by Department of Journalism and Media
Studies of Stamford University, Sujf journalist award 2021 both of his alma mater. In addition,
he has received the best reporter award from his workplace several times.
