Rebouças Becomes the Main Axis of New Offices in the Capital

15 Sep 2023  |  vejasp.abril.com.br
Avenida Rebouças in São Paulo is experiencing unprecedented real estate development with new office buildings, luxury residences, and a hotel, leading to a surge in land prices. The area's transformation is driven by the city's expansion of corporate real estate, with prices per square meter rising significantly. The market's appetite for these new spaces remains uncertain, with some spaces still negotiating leases. The return to in-person work and the potential for increased traffic congestion are concerns. The upcoming vote on a new Zoning Law could further impact the area's development. The growth along Rebouças is a direct result of the 2016 law change, which allowed more skyscrapers along transport axes. However, this has led to a construction density without a corresponding population density, catering mainly to high-income groups. Urban planning experts are closely monitoring the expansion and its implications for the city's development.

Adenosine pathway regulates inflammation during Plasmodium vivax infection

21 Jul 2023  |  frontiersin.org
The article discusses a study on the role of monocytes in controlling Plasmodium vivax malaria infection and the associated inflammatory response. The study found that monocytes produce high levels of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 during P. vivax infection, which can be triggered by P. vivax-infected reticulocytes. Monocytes express high levels of ectonucleotidases, indicating their role in modulating extracellular ATP and adenosine production. Although plasmatic adenosine levels were not altered in acute malaria patients, their monocytes showed increased expression of P1 purinergic receptors. Adenosine was found to decrease Tumor Necrosis Factor production by monocytes, an effect partially reversed by blocking the A2a receptor. The study suggests that purinergic receptor modulators could be a new approach to treat clinical malaria. The research was conducted with the approval of ethical committees and with informed consent from participants.
