PIA issues tender for selling its spare parts before privatisation
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has issued tenders for the sale of spare parts for B707, B737, CESSNA, and FOKKER aircraft as part of its privatisation process. The sale is on an 'As is Where is' basis, with bids for each lot to be submitted separately by April 29. Three Gulf countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, have expressed interest in purchasing the financially troubled PIA, and their officials have been briefed by Pakistan about the national flag carrier.

Three Gulf countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, have expressed interest in purchasing the financially troubled Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) as Pakistan accelerates its privatization efforts. The Pakistani government has briefed officials from these countries and plans to sell PIA to the highest bidder. An 11-member Board of Directors for PIA's holding company has been approved by the federal cabinet, with Tariq Bajwa as chairman. Prime Minister Shehbaz has called for transparency in the privatization process and a final schedule for PIA's privatization. Additionally, the PIA Board of Governors has proposed early retirement for employees nearing retirement in the event of privatization.
Another 25 flights cancelled as fog persists
Air operations in Pakistan were disrupted on Friday due to heavy fog, resulting in 25 flight cancellations and 11 diversions. Over four days, 150 flights were cancelled and over 300 faced delays. The fog is expected to continue affecting the plain areas of the province, with visibility in the provincial capital between 50 to 100 metres. The met department forecasted cold weather and potential dense fog in various districts, with light rain and snowfall possible in some areas.
FIA unveils hotline to report human trafficking
The Federal Investigation Agency of Pakistan has launched the country's first Trafficking In Persons Hotline to register complaints against human trafficking. The initiative, supported by the International Labour Organisation and funded by the Australian High Commission, includes a national referral mechanism and a Management Information System to aid victims. DG FIA Mohsin Hassan Butt emphasized the hotline's crucial role in combating trafficking, with the Australian deputy high commissioner recognizing the collaborative efforts. The UNODC was thanked for its assistance, and the launch event was attended by various dignitaries.
Another foreign airline announces flights to Pakistan
Taban Airline has announced the commencement of direct flights to Pakistan, with the first flight landing in Karachi from Mashhad. The inauguration will be conducted by Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori. This follows the launch of direct flights between Karachi and Kuala Lumpur by Malaysian airline Batik Air and the initiation of direct flight operations to Pakistan by Azerbaijan's national airline, AZAL.

PIA flight operations returning to normal after fuel supply
Pakistan International Airlines' flight schedule is normalizing following the restoration of fuel supply from Pakistan State Oil. PIA is operating 48 flights, including 32 international and 16 domestic, after making a payment of Rs500 million to PSO. The airline had previously suspended 24 flights due to a lack of fuel supply but is now making daily payments to PSO and prioritizing fuel for profitable routes.
