Akila Jayawardena is based in Colombo. An independent photojournalist, visual storyteller, and artist. Akila represents the fourth generation of photojournalism in Sri Lanka.
Akila started his career in photojournalism in 2017 as a freelance photographer at Ceylon Today, one of the main English Read morenewspapers in the country. He is also a regular contributor to Roar Media, a South Asia-based digital media platform, publishing photo stories on various subjects.

In 2019, Akila joined the Nur Photo Agency in Italy as a contributor, where he received the opportunity to take his images to an international audience. His work during Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 lockdowns as well as the following economic crisis has been published on multiple international news platforms. Locally, he continues to freelance his skills at the Sunday Times, one of the leading English newspapers on the island, and he also worked as a freelance photographer (2019 to 2021) at the Ravaya, an alternative Sinhala newspaper in Sri Lanka.

 Having over 25 years in field experience having covered disaster zones of Colombo and around Sri Lanka both during and Read morepost Civil War which concluded in 2009. Having lived in the Uk for a period of close to ten years, covered many protests and other events from music festivals to street photography which is a passion discovering people and expression of cultures. But upon returning to the Island of Sri Lanka in 2005, has managed to work through humanitarian organisations covering many struggled of both the living conditions and the ongoing political struggled in the Island to its present day being involved in documenting over a month and half of protests and many clashes between the people and the tri forces. 

Angelo is currently based in Colombo and available for assignments within the Island and overseas having a active passport.
