Far-Right Set to Win Costa Rica's Elections

San José, Costa Rica Politics January 29 @ 12:47am

Elections will take place this week in Costa Rica, with a tropical version of Trump ( currently leading the polls. A runoff vote will be held in April.

The far-right and the religious parties are taking the lead, with frontrunners Juan Diego Castro and Fabricio Alvarado, showing complete disregard for human rights.

Only 4 years ago, the left was close to winning the presidency, and a ferocious smear campaing - with foreign agents intervening directly - created a scenario where the current president (who's party currently holds a 5% popularity at the polls) became the most voted president in modern history.

Observers warn that democracy itself is at risk.
