Threats to the Sitatunga in Yala Swamp with changing Climate

Nairobi, Kenya Climate Change August 18 @ 7:54am

Reclamation Yala Swamp, for agricultural purposes, has hitherto threatened the existence of Sitatunga (Tragelaphus spekii) in the region. Being a swamp-dwelling antelope, clearing of the swamp for Agricultural purpose will pose a great threat to the few species that are remaining.
As we speak the swamp has been leased to a private investor who will be using 75 percent of the swamp for agricultural purposes, secondly the dwellers around the area are also whetting their appetite to upscale their domestic agricultural practice.
Highlighting this story will in one way help in preserving these swamp antelopes in Yala.
