Raziah Athman is an award-winning journalist, she was Africanews’ Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Head of English edition of the channel but now produces news for Vision Group TV platforms, newspaper and podcasts. 

She started her journalistic career back in 2006 in Uganda working for the various Read moremedia outlets, such as the Giraffe, which she established herself, but also Voice of Teso and Urban TV as a producer, reporter and presenter. 

She also freelanced as an international correspondent for TRT World, Africanews and reported for the BBC World Service under the Africa Partnership Project.

At Africanews, Raziah managed the English language team - taking editorial responsibility for all content on both TV and online, in addition to working on her own reportage. Her report on aviation in Africa “Young Women Fly High in a Male Dominated Field” won the television reporting UMWA Gender Award, and “Kibiro Salt Mines Crumbling Due to Effects of Climate Change” won a honorary mention for 2023 ACME environmental reporting award. 

She is a regular moderator at panels and interviewer of prominent political and cultural figures, including the president of Rwanda Paul Kagame, the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, as well as singing sensation Jose Chameleone.

Raziah is the founder of #UgandaReading, a movement promoting a strong reading culture across Africa.

She holds a master’s degree in Media Leadership and Innovation from Aga Khan University, and a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Kampala International University.

Halima Athumani is a seasoned freelance journalist based in Uganda, with a rich background in radio, television, and multimedia reporting. With over 13 years of experience in the field, she has made significant contributions to various international media outlets, including Voice of America's Read moreAfrica desk for both radio and television, US-based National Public Radio, and as the podcast host of an ongoing war crimes trial in Sweden. Athumani's work has been featured on platforms such as SciDev.Net and she has also produced content for Public Radio International-America Abroad Media, BBC, and podcasts for the University of Cambridge.

Before her international engagements, Athumani honed her skills in local Ugandan media, working with 93.3 KFM from 2006 to 2009 and the Uganda Radio Network-News Agency from 2010 to 2014. Her foray into television journalism began in 2016 with an investigative piece titled "Uganda's Health Pyramids," which aired on Al Jazeera's People and Power, supported by Banyak Films-UK. This marked the start of her impactful storytelling through visual media, which has since included special assignments and documentaries.

Beyond her reporting, Athumani has played a crucial role as a fixer, collaborating with renowned photographers and filmmakers from National Geographic, BBC, and other international production crews from Japan and Germany. Her local production work includes "The Messenger" (2021) and a BBC documentary series on farming in Uganda (2018-2019). Athumani's journalism provides a window into the social, political, and cultural landscapes of Sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on Uganda and Kenya. Her reporting delves into topics such as education, the illegal ivory trade, women's writing groups, and innovative health initiatives, offering a nuanced perspective on the challenges and transformations within East African communities.

Sophia Adengo is a journalist, filmmaker and founder of SVA Media, an audio, visual and multi-media production company in Kampala, Uganda.

Ms Adengo brings over 18 years of experience within the local, regional, continental and international media landscape. 

In 2018, she held the position of Read moreHead of Bureau at Feature Story News (FSN) - a Washington DC-based news agency in Africa's most populous country, Nigeria. Notable media clients include China Global Television Network (CGTN), CNN, DW, and TRT. News content cut across a vast spectrum of issues on the African content.

FSN expanded its reach to the South Africa region, where Ms Adengo worked with local teams to produce daily news and multimedia content for SABC.

In 2021 Ms Adengo took on the role of Deputy Head of Multi-media Production, Information Support Team (IST) in Nairobi, Kenya.

IST covered the North and East African corridor, tracking the progress of the United Nations Support Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) and African Union (AU) humanitarian programmes, and strategic communication campaigns particularly in Somalia. Multi-media projects included long-form features, mini-documentary, and digital videos, podcast and vodcasts for designated social media platforms.

Ms Adengo earlier worked with Uganda’s premier media organisation Vision Group- where she served in a variety of positions, among them as Director/Producer of Programming Urban TV, (2009-2013), building on previous broadcast experience in television and radio.

Ms Adengo holds a Bachelor of Communications from Daystar University, Nairobi Kenya, and a Bachelor of International Relations Studies from Cavendish University, Kampala, Uganda. She is also recently certified by the Université De Genéve in Humanitarian Communication.

Sarah Fluck is a freelance multimedia journalist - currently based in Kampala. Mainly reporting from Uganda, DRC, South Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi and Kenya. MSc in African Politics from SOAS, London. BA in Journalism from IAM, Winterthur. Diploma in Broadcast Journalism from MAZ, Luzern.
