Chia Ling Tang

Taipei, Taiwan
I started my media career in 1998 and had 25 years of media experience. Before joining in VOA, I worked as a senior editor for Taiwan's mainstream newspaper “Liberty Times” and a journalist as the deputy convener. Besides, I worked as a reporter and radio host at Radio Free Asia.

When in Liberty Read moreTimes, I won the second Leopard Journalism Award and was shortlisted for the Zeng Xubai Public Service Reporting Award. In addition, I conducted an exclusive interview with the former Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan which was published on the headlines of the front page of Liberty Times.

I exposed a series of nuclear-related frauds on the front page exclusively, which has aroused Taiwanese people’s attention to nuclear power plant 4, set off a wave of civil movements, and prompted the government to declare nuclear power plant 4 to be sealed. In addition, I was the first to report on the issue of PM2.5 air pollution, which made people start to understand and care about the PM2.5 issue, prompting the Environmental Protection Agency to start to publish the official PM2.5 annual report, and made many temples such as Longshan Temple and Xingtian Temple begin to reduce the incense burners.

When working in Radio Free Asia, I wrote reports related to the presidential palace, cross-strait, national defense, and foreign affairs, and hosted a radio program on environmental protection issues, interviewing the former Norwegian Prime Minister Mrs. Gro Harlem Brundtland and Dr. Hansen, the father of global warming et al.

I obtained my master's degree in public administration from National Chengchi University and a bachelor's degree in Chinese major and foreign languages minor from Tsing Hua University in Taiwan.

Cindy Sui

Taipei, Taiwan
Hi, I've been working for many years as a journalist, first in California, then Hong Kong, mainland China, Taiwan and now back in Hong Kong. I started out working for newspapers and then switched to wire agency reporting when I worked for Agence France Presse (AFP) as a Beijing-based foreign Read morecorrespondent from 1999 to 2006. In late 2006, I moved to Taiwan and after freelancing for international, regional and local publications for about a year, I became the BBC's Taiwan correspondent, branching out into broadcast media (both radio and TV), while continuing to write text stories for its website. In the past decade, I also learned to film and edit my own video stories, some of which were the most viewed on the BBC's website. I'm available to do all sorts of journalism work except for fixing and translating, though I can refer you to friends and students who can help. In Hong Kong, I focus on writing analyses and feature stories about Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China, to help the world understand this important region. I speak Cantonese and Mandarin fluently and can read Chinese well-enough to understand press releases and media reports.
