Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men and a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. This study investigates gene expression and DNA methylation in circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and plasma-derived exosomes as prognostic markers in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). The research highlights the potential of liquid biopsy for real-time monitoring of cancer progression and treatment response. Key findings include the significant association of certain gene expressions and DNA methylation markers with lower overall survival rates and higher death risks in mCRPC patients. The study underscores the diagnostic value of CTCs and exosomes in prostate cancer.

Gaza conflict: Local food brands rush to supplant disengaged global ones. Can the momentum last?

| Consumer Behavior
The Gaza conflict has spurred a significant 'buy local' movement across the Middle East, with consumers avoiding brands perceived to support the Israeli occupation and turning to local alternatives. This shift has led to a surge in demand for homegrown food brands like Spiro Spathis and Matrix Cola, and has boosted sales for grocery stores and fast food chains such as Atalla Market, Drip Burgers, and Al Baik. While some businesses are expanding rapidly to meet demand, experts caution against hasty growth, advising companies to focus on quality and sustainable development. The movement reflects a broader trend of consumer activism and support for local entrepreneurs.

| Energy and Resources
The article discusses the potential for conflict between Ethiopia and Egypt over the Nile River due to the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). Ethiopia is building the dam to generate electricity and boost its economy, but Egypt fears the dam will significantly reduce its water supply, which is almost entirely dependent on the Nile. While there have been threats and dialogues since 2011, analysts believe a war is unlikely. Instead, Egypt is seeking an agreement on the timeframe for filling the dam's reservoir to minimize impact. The situation is complicated by historical treaties and the recent political turmoil in Sudan, which could affect negotiations. The new Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, has shown a willingness to engage in more constructive negotiations.

Drastic reform needed to save Egypt's economy

Egypt's economy continues to struggle four years after the 2011 revolts, with activists and analysts calling for deep reforms to address economic decline, corruption, and inefficiency. Political turbulence and repression have hindered investment, and austerity measures have exacerbated economic challenges. Experts emphasize the need for foreign investment, particularly in labor-intensive projects, to stabilize the economy. Recent deals in the energy sector and modest improvements in tourism and the non-oil private sector offer some hope. However, high inflation, unemployment, and corruption remain significant obstacles. Comprehensive economic and political reforms are deemed essential for sustainable improvement.

| Egyptian Politics
The article reports on mass demonstrations in Cairo, Egypt, where thousands rallied in support of Palestine and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi's policy on the Gaza crisis. This marks a significant shift as Egypt had a near-decade long ban on public protests. The government and state-managed groups organized the protests, which also served as a platform for expressing support for el-Sisi ahead of the presidential election. The demonstrations were scheduled to coincide with a Peace Conference aimed at de-escalating the Gaza situation. While many protesters showed support for el-Sisi, some expressed more militant views and anti-Israeli sentiments. The article also touches on the opinions of various analysts and activists regarding the situation in Gaza, the role of Hamas, and the impact of Israeli policies on the Palestinian Authority.
